The Junior League of Wilmington has named Stephanie Cory of Wilmington as its new president and announced the members of the 2013-14 Board of Directors. Cory epitomizes the mission of the League, which is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. "We have such an exciting year ahead of us,” Cory said. “We have the Heart of the Home® Kitchen Tour celebrating its 10th year as well as our League celebrating its 95th anniversary." In her professional life, Cory serves as executive director of the Epilepsy Foundation of Delaware. She also serves as a BoardSource Certified Governance Trainer and as a board member for Old Brandywine Village Inc.; an international board member for the Association of Fundraising Professionals; a member of United Way of Delaware Women’s Leadership Council; and a peer reviewer for the Standards for Excellence® Program through the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Southern California.
"It's a League tradition for the president to develop a theme for each year, and I'm excited about this year's theme – honoring our past, building our future – because it says so much about where we've been as an organization and where we hope to be today and tomorrow," Cory noted. “The League has been a tremendous learning experience for me, and I encourage women in our community to learn more about us. We have so much to offer." This year’s president-elect is Susan Coulby of Newark. Coulby serves as media relations manager for Camden County College and has volunteered for the Camden County College Foundation, UNICEF, the Kind to Kids Foundation, the Food Bank of Delaware, The Arc of Chester County and the National High School Mock Trial Championship. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Delaware. In addition to Cory and Coulby, an experienced group of women from a variety of professional backgrounds is rounding out the League’s 2013-14 Board of Directors. They are: Meaghan Nana-Sinkam of Hockessin (secretary), Katie Van Druff of Wilmington (treasurer), Mary Kay Camaratta of Wilmington (assistant treasurer), Laura Bianco of Wilmington (vice president, community programs), Jennifer Simon of Chadds Ford, Pa., (vice president, membership), Cindy Dunn of Newark (Sustainer Committee chair) and Lynn Bouscaren of Newark (Sustainer advisor). In addition to the many community activities scheduled for this year, the Junior League of Wilmington’s 10th Heart of the Home® Kitchen Tour on April 5. This event will highlight approximately 15 kitchens located throughout Wilmington, Newark, Hockessin, southern Chester County in Pennsylvania and surrounding areas, all of which have unique styles, sizes and features. The League also will celebrate its 95 years of service to the Greater Wilmington area with a number of activities. This such a good cause for an organization since it shows that women have the power to handle the board just like men. There are a lot of organizations that wants to improve the community they live in so I find it heartwarming every time I discover one. I hope that someday I will be also part of a group like this that helps those who are less fortunate. Hoping that your organization will help more people and grow.
